If you are overweight, you should gain 2 to 4 pounds in the first trimester and after that, you can gain half a pound per week for the rest of the pregnancy that will be about 15 to 25 pounds through the pregnancy and if obese, you should gain about 11 to 20 pounds during pregnancy. This is according to Centers for disease control and prevention (CDC).
