3. Pick Up, Put Down

Here, you briefly comfort your baby when they cry, then gently place them back in the crib. It takes time but gradually encourages independent sleep, making it a less challenging option for some parents.

4. Chair Technique

Involving gradual distancing, this method has you sitting in a chair near the crib as your baby nods off, moving farther away each night. While providing comfort, it fosters independence, though it can test your patience.

5. Bedtime Fading

This technique involves gradually shifting bedtime to align with your baby’s natural rhythm, reducing crib time before sleep. It helps establish a smoother sleep routine, making the transition to independent sleep easier for both of you!

Can It Be Too Late To Start For Older Babies?

There’s no need to fear if your kid is older than six months because It’s never too late to develop good sleep habits.

When it comes to getting your infants to sleep through the night, the nine-month mark is a bit of a sweet spot. At this stage, babies don’t need to feed at night because they are old enough to grasp patterns.

The type of sleep-training technique you select, however, may depend on your baby’s age. With a five-month-old, you might try the pick-up, put-down method, but you’ll probably have to leave a one-year-old in the crib as they fight back by crying to the new bedtime routine. 

Although many four-month-old babies are naturally capable of sleeping through the night without a feed, if other attempts to settle them down are unsuccessful, you should still intervene and feed them. 

Before stopping your baby’s nighttime feedings, I advise seeing your doctor because every circumstance is unique.
